Texans Week 1 Summary

Each week during the Texans spring season, we’ll take a quick look back at what happened on the diamond and what’s coming up. As time allows, we may even venture out into College & MLB happenings. So… here we go!

Texans JV Squad

Exciting week coming up for our JV team as they finally get to play a team not made up of Texans : ) The boys have a scrimmage coming up against Round Rock Christian and then later in the week, they have a game scheduled against San Marcos Academy Bears. Texans Varsity Squad

The varsity had a busy week on the diamond, dropping a tough one against the Regents School of Austin early in the week and then battled the FEAST Homeschool group out of San Antonio in a doubleheader this weekend. The boys have a rematch slated against the Regents Varsity team on Monday pending weather. The games scheduled next Friday & Saturday have been cancelled. Refer to the email sent by the Director on Sunday evening. You can also check the Texans Varsity calendar for updates. As a reminder, we have been capturing the games, when possible, with Facebook Live and also posting the videos to the Austin Texans Baseball YouTube channel. NCAA Baseball

The 2020 NCAA Division I baseball season will begin on February 14, 2020. Take a look at the preseason Top 25… The ACC & SEC both boast 8 teams in the rankings, with the top 5 being; Louisville, Vanderbilt, Miami, Florida, and Georgia. MLB

Spring training for Major League Baseball kicks off on Friday February 21 with the Texas Rangers taking on the Kansas City Royals. Opening day for the 2020 season will be March 26 and games are scheduled through October 28 of this year. A series of international and fan interest games will be played this year, including;

The San Diego Padres will play the Arizona Diamondbacks in a two-game series at the recently built Estadio Alfredo Harp Helú in Mexico City, Mexico on April 18-19.

The New York Mets will play the Miami Marlins in a three-game series at Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on April 28–30.

The London Series will feature the Chicago Cubs vs St. Louis Cardinals at London Stadium on June 13–14. It will be the second and (barring new developments) final year of the London Series.

The New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox will play on August 13 in the first “MLB at Field of Dreams” game. A temporary 8,000-seat ballpark will be constructed on the Dyersville farm site where the film Field of Dreams was shot. This will be the first MLB game played in Iowa since 1875.
